During the last week at my time with Kobelco, I was assigned to give a presentation over antitrust law.
I worked hard to try and explain the three major antitrust laws in the simplest way so most people in the room could understand.
Fortunately, I had just recently finished up an internship with the Federal Trade Commission, so this was the perfect topic to research.
With enough examples and a bit of translation, I believe I was able to achieve my goal of effectively explaining U.S. antitrust law to my Japanese co-workers.
I learned a lot while researching for this presentation. One of the major things I discovered while preparing for the presentation was because of America’s occupation of Japan, Japan’s antimonopoly law was premised on the American-style market economy system.
I really enjoyed the research process and creating my presentation. I was very nervous to give the presentation, and even more so once I found out that members of the Kobe office would also be joining the presentation by Skype!
However, after some time, the nerves went away, and we were able to have a great discussion. I was very happy to have gained the experience.
After my presentation, my Kobelco colleagues took me out to dinner to celebrate completing the presentation. It is a memory I will never forget.
