Professor Lisa T. Alexander was one of only two individuals selected through a competitive process by the Division of Research at Texas A&M University to go forward with a full proposal to the National Endowment of Humanities Summer Stipends program (August 2017).

Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor Cynthia Alkon presented “Losing Empathy While Gaining Technology: Concerns for Criminal Practice and Reform” for the Criminal Justice Workshop on “Criminal Justice and Technology: Changes in Law, Practice, and Culture” at the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) 2017 Annual Meeting, Boca Raton, Florida (Aug. 3, 2017). She also did the following at SEALS:

  • Served as a discussant for the Workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution on “Discussions in Dispute Resolution – Arbitration” (August 1, 2017).
  • Served as a discussant for the Workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution on “Discussions in Dispute Resolution – Dispute Resolution Policy” (August 3, 2017).

Professor Wayne Barnes, in his capacity as co-editor alongside Professor Frank Snyder, published Principles of Sales Law, by West Academic Publishing. This is the second edition of the Concise Hornbook series, and is a continuation of the venerable series of texts on the Uniform Commercial Code authored by James J. White and Robert S. Summers. Daniel Barnhizer (Michigan State) is also a co-editor.

Associate Dean William Byrnes published LexisNexis® Guide to FATCA and CRS Compliance (Vol. 1 & Vol 2) (Matthew Bender) (6th Edition) (August 2017).

Professor Irene Calboli delivered a keynote address titled "Intellectual Property and the Public Interest: One Size Does Not Fit All" at the Symphonizing Intellectual Property and Potential Resources for Public Welfare Conference organized by the Annual Conference of the Association of Intellectual Property Lecturers of Indonesia, University of Mataram, Lombok, Indonesia (Aug. 20-23, 2017).

  • Presented her work in progress on "Regional Integration and IP Exhaustion Rules" at the Regional Organizations and Regional Integration Workshop organized by the Centre for International Law, Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore, Singapore (Aug. 7-8, 2017).

  • Served as a distinguished guest speaker at the Faculty of Law, Airlangga University in Surabaya, Indonesia. She delivered a lecture on "Introduction to Intellectual Property" for the LL.B. Program and a lecture on "Managing Intellectual Property" for the LL.M. in Intellectual Property (Aug. 23, 2017).

  • Submitted the chapter "The Role of the State and the Private Sector in the Governing Framework of Geographical Indications" for the book Public-Private Partnerships, Global Intellectual Property Governance and Sustainable Development, which will be published in 2018 by Cambridge University Press (Margaret Chon, Pedro Roffe, & Ahmed Abdel-Latif eds.) (with Delphine Marie-Vivien) (Aug. 2017).

Clinical Professor and Director of the Family and Veterans Advocacy Clinic Celestina Contreras received notice that Texas A&M Law’s applications for clinic grant renewals were approved (Aug. 18, 2017).

Professor Susan Fortney served as a panelist for a session at the Texas A&M University Orientation for New Faculty Members. The panel session was called: “What I Wish I Knew—Characteristics of Successful Faculty” (Aug. 14, 2017).

Professor Michael Z. Green presented “Reversing Breeden” as part of the Workshop on Labor and Employment Law Discussion Group Program on “Trends and Developments in Anti-Retaliation Law” at the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) 2017 Annual Meeting, Boca Raton, Florida (Aug. 2, 2017). He also did the following at SEALS:

  • Presented “Plans for the NLRB and the EEOC” as part of the Workshop on Labor and Employment Discussion Group Program on “Employment Law in the Trump Era” (Aug. 3, 2017).
  • Presented “Why College Football Players Cannot Be Employees Under the NLRA After Northwestern,” as part of the Workshop on Labor and Employment Discussion Group Program on “Students as Employees” (Aug. 3, 2017).
  • Coordinated and moderated the Workshop on Labor and Employment Law Discussion Group Program on “New and Existing Voices in Labor and Employment Law” (Aug. 4, 2017).
  • Presented “Difficulties in Showing Employer Intent to Discriminate” as part of the Workshop on Labor and Employment Discussion Group Program on “Intentionally Disparate? A Reflection on Recent Developments in Individual Disparate Treatment Law” (Aug. 5, 2017).
  • Completed his three-year term serving as a member of the Board of Trustees for SEALS (Aug. 6, 2017).

Professor Terri Helge served as a discussant in the “Tax Policy Discussion Group” as part of the Workshop on Tax Law at the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) in Boca Raton, Florida (Aug. 6, 2017).

  • Selected to serve an additional term as Chairperson of the Tax-Exempt Organizations Committee of the State Bar of Texas Tax Section. She has served in this role since August 2011.

Professor H. Brian Holland served as a discussant in the “Digital Pressures in Intellectual Property Law Discussion Group” at the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) in Boca Raton, Florida (Aug. 6, 2017).

Executive Associate Dean for Administration and Finance and Professor Gary Lucas served as a discussant in the “Tax Policy Discussion Group” as part of the Workshop on Tax Law at the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) in Boca Raton, Florida (Aug. 6, 2017).

Professor Glynn Lunney presented “Copyright’s Transformation” at the 2017 Intellectual Property Scholars Conference held at Cardozo School of Law in New York, New York (Aug. 10, 2017).

Associate Professor Felix Mormann served as a discussant for the Workshop on Environmental Law & Business Law on “Sustainability Cross-Disciplinarity: Collaborating Across Colleges and Campuses” at the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) 2017 Annual Meeting, Boca Raton, Florida (Aug. 2, 2017). He also did the following at SEALS:

  • Served as a discussant for the “Teaching Environmental Law and Climate Change in the Post-Trump World” Discussion Group (Aug. 3, 2017).
  • Served as a discussant for the Workshop on Business Law on “Environmental Protection and the Green Economy” (Aug. 3, 2017).

Associate Professor Carol Pauli was a discussant in the Workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution on “Discussions in Dispute Resolution – Mediation” at the 2017 Annual Meeting Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) conference held in Boca Raton, Florida (Aug. 2017) .

Associate Professor Peter Reilly delivered negotiation training for the Local Leadership Conference of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers held in Baltimore, Maryland (Aug. 29, 2017).

  • Served as a discussant for the Workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution on “Discussions in Dispute Resolution - Negotiation” at the 2017 Annual Conference for the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) in Boca Raton, Florida (Aug. 1, 2017).

Associate Instructional Professor Lisa A. Rich had her article, “Teaching Public Policy Drafting in Law School: One Professor’s Approach,” published in the Duquesne Law Review, 55 Duq. L. Rev. 151-90 (2017).

Professor Aric Short presented “The Reflective Job Search: Mindfulness as a Tool for Law Students Who Are Anxious and Adrift,” at the Mindfulness for Student Success Conference held at the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) (Aug. 3, 2017).

Professor Frank Snyder, in his capacity as co-editor alongside Professor Wayne Barnes, published Principles of Sales Law by West Academic Publishing. Professor Neil L. Sobol presented "Connecting Legal Writing Students with Consumer Law” at the Western Regional Legal Writing Conference at Seattle University School of Law (Aug. 25, 2017).

  • Served as a discussant in the Workshop on Criminal Justice on “Criminal Justice and Technology: Changes in Law, Practice, and Culture” at the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) 2017 Annual Meeting, Boca Raton, Florida (Aug. 3, 2017).

Associate Professor Saurabh Vishnubhakat presented his project “Rethinking Patent Law’s Validity Power” at the 2017 Intellectual Property Scholars Conference at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York, New York (Aug. 10–11, 2017).

  • He also made the following contributions at the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) in Boca Raton, Florida:
    • Served as a discussant in the “Law of Equity” discussion group (Aug. 1, 2017).
    • Co-organized and participated in the “Digital Pressures in Intellectual Property” ​discussion group (Aug. 4, 2017).
    • Co-organized and presented his paper, “The Porous Court-Agency Boundary in Patent Law,” at the “Intellectual Property and the Administrative State” panel (Aug. 5, 2017).

Professor Peter Yu spoke on "TPP and the RCEP" at the Contemporary Legal Issues of Korea and the U.S. in a Globalizing World Symposium at St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas (Aug. 31, 2017).

  • Presented "The Future of Global Fair Use Is Not Fair Use" at the 17th Intellectual Property Scholars Conference at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University (Aug. 10-11, 2017).
