Similar to many other companies, compliance is a key issue that Kobelco is constantly working to maintain. As part of my assignments, I learned Kobelco’s Corporate Philosophy, which includes their Management Philosophy, Business Vision, and SPIRIT values.
The SPIRIT values are taught to all employees to achieve the company’s corporate philosophy and maintain compliance. However, this is easier said than done. Since Kobelco has subsidiaries all over the world, including one in Katy, Texas, explaining the important of compliance to all the members is a tough task to accomplish. Not only is language an obstacle, people’s mindset regarding how to conduct business also vary by country.
Interestingly enough, I was able to use the knowledge I had obtained in my "Business Organizations and the FCPA" class with Professor Michael Koehler to assist the Compliance Group in executing their ideas.
