In June 2017 at the Annual Meeting of the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS), Associate Dean Charlotte Ku rejoined the ACUNS Board of Directors assuming the position of Vice Chair.
From 1998-2000, Professor Ku, Texas A&M University School of Law Global Programs Director, served as the Chair of ACUNS Board of Directors.
The 2017 Annual Meeting, "Revitalizing the United Nations for Human Rights, Peace and Development," was held in Seoul, South Korea. Professor Ku took part in the 30th anniversary plenary session, "ACUNS at 30: Retrospect and Prospect," reflecting on her work as one of the early supporters and developers of the ACUNS signature Workshop on International Organization Studies.
The workshop fosters interdisciplinary cooperation among lawyers, international relations scholars, and practitioners within the UN system and related institutions. The purpose of the workshop is to foster a deeper understanding of UN operations and processes in order to advance knowledge in a particular subject area. ACUNS is a global professional association of educational and research institutions, individual scholars, and practitioners active in the work and study of the United Nations, multilateral relations, global governance, and international cooperation. We promote teaching on these topics, as well as dialogue and mutual understanding across and between academics, practitioners, civil society and students. (From the ACUNS website at www.acuns.org).
