Eminent Domain Students Send Reports to Texas Legislature

March 24, 2017

EminDom-Austin-HerreroDuring Spring 2017, several students delivered copies of a report, “Law and Policy Resource Guide: A Survey of Eminent Domain Law in Texas and the Nation,” to the members of the 85th Legislature in Austin, including the Chairmen of the Committees with authority over eminent domain.

The report was the result of the Eminent Domain course taught during Fall 2016 by Dean Andrew Morriss, Adjunct Professor Jim Bradbury ‘88 and Associate Professor Cynthia Burress. The course was designed as a 50-state survey of the law of eminent domain. The course invited eleven guest speakers who represented the many interests involved in the eminent domain issue who provided an overview of how Texas law currently works in this area. The students researched and organized the report, which compares Texas law to the other states’ laws on eminent domain.
