Professor Nuno Garoupa, an expert on law and economics, comparative law and comparative judicial politics, uses the traditional distinction between common law systems (prevailing in the Anglo-American world) and civil law systems (with significant variations across Europe, Asia and Latin America) to highlight different lawyering and business practices across the world. Topics include the impact of legal traditions on the structure of legal professions, billing practices, organization of law firms, regulation of lawyering and business, the influence of lawyers and business interests in lawmaking. Professor Garoupa also addresses how globalization (a flat world) has reshaped lawyering and business outside of the United States.
