May 18-20, 2023
Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico, Mexico City
Presented by Texas A&M University School of Law and College of Arts and Sciences
Conference Information
The conference builds upon the work of Texas A&M researchers focusing on the reintegration experiences of Mexican nationals who return to Mexico, either voluntarily or after deportation, after living in the United States. With this conference, we seek to bring together advocates, service providers, and policymakers on both sides of the border to understand the challenges that Mexican returnees face and to brainstorm about possible solutions to address these challenges. We hope to start a collaborative conversation to identify best practices and create a network that bridges the gap of services that returnees face when reintegrating into Mexican society. The conference will include panels, discussions, and networking opportunities, and an overview of conference events is attached.
Specifically, the conference will engage nonprofit leaders, government officials, scholars and clinicians in discussions about the services available in the U.S. and Mexico for individuals who return voluntarily and involuntarily, the opportunities for greater communication between NGOs and government, and NGOs on both sides of the U.S. Mexico border. The conference structure allows for small group dialogue about issues related to gender inequities, mental health resources, labor market opportunities, and other factors that may be inhibitors to integration. The goal is to not only address the concerns but also leave with a plan of action to begin developing a binational legal services network that connects immigrant advocates to better collaborate as they help immigrant families address legal needs.
There is no cost for conference participation.
