Environment and Natural Resources Division
US Department of Justice

Are you interested in public service, environmental protection, and one of the best training grounds for externs and new attorneys?  Come learn about the opportunities available at the US DOJ’s Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD).  ENRD’s mission is to enforce the Nation’s civil and criminal environmental laws, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and hazardous waste laws.  Their mission also involves the protection and proper utilization of the Nation’s natural resources and handling cases relating to tribal rights and resources.

Jason Barbeau is a senior trial attorney in the Environmental Enforcement Section at the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. He prosecutes federal civil enforcement actions nationwide under the Clean Water Act, Oil Pollution Act, Clean Air Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, RCRA, CERCLA, and the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act. Notable cases have involved the first-ever oil spill trial under Section 311 of the Clean Water Act, the then-largest-ever penalty under the Clean Air Act, vessel-pollution cases in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, and marine and coastal natural resource damage cases in the Gulf of Mexico. Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Mr. Barbeau worked as a wilderness ranger for the United States Forest Service, an environmental investigator, and a litigator in private practice. Mr. Barbeau is a graduate of Tulane Law School and Yale University.

Attendance at the event counts for the semester-long EENRSLP raffle.
