Justice Lee GabrielThe Texas A&M Public Interest Law Fellowship is honored to present the second annual Texas A&M Law Fellowship Public Interest Award to the Honorable Justice Lee Gabriel, Second Court of Appeals of Texas. At Texas A&M University School of Law, Justice Gabriel is an adjunct law professor and serves as a director and coach of the Mock Trial program.

Justice Gabriel will be honored at this year's Texas A&M Public Interest Law Fellowship Gala, held on January 27, 2018 at the Red Oak Ballroom in downtown Fort Worth.

Justice Gabriel received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with honors from Texas Tech University. She graduated cum laude from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1980. Thereafter, she began a career dedicated to selfless service and public interest.

For two years, she served as a law clerk for Chief Judge Halbert O. Woodward of the Northern District of Texas. She then moved on to work as a felony prosecutor for the Denton County District Attorney’s Office. While there, she earned her board certification in criminal law. She was promoted to First Assistant District Attorney in 1986. In 1989, she was appointed as the first District Judge of the 367th District Court in Denton County. After presiding in that general jurisdiction court for over twenty years, she was appointed to the Second Court of Appeals of Texas in July of 2010, where she has served ever since.

Justice Gabriel has been appointed and elected to numerous State Bar of Texas and other professional boards and committees during her career. Currently, she serves on the Ethics Committee of the Judicial Section of the State Bar of Texas and on the Board of Directors of the Texas Center for the Judiciary. She is the former President of the Eldon B. Mahon Inn of Court. Previously, she was the Chairperson of the Criminal Law Exam Commission for the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. She served on the Judicial Advisory Council to the Community Justice Assistance Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and on the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the State Bar of Texas. She has been a frequent author and speaker at seminars sponsored by the State Bar of Texas and other continuing legal education organizations. In 2013, Justice Gabriel earned her board certification in criminal appellate law.

At Texas A&M School of Law, Justice Gabriel is the Director of the Mock Trial program, where she oversees the direction of all teams in addition to serving as a coach herself. She also serves as an adjunct law professor, specializing in legal ethics and trial advocacy.
